Why?

Did you know that you could buy 5lb bags of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Powder?  But seriously, why would you?  They say it has many uses beyond bright orange mac n cheese.  For example, who knew it made an awesome popcorn topper?  Click on the cheese dust to buy your own.

This Will Blow Your Mind!

I had the opportunity to try out Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt and was blown away!  I thought it was going to be an okay snack that might take the edge off of my craving for a big bowl of ice cream.  I mean, at 100 calories and 4 grams of protein per serving how good could it be?  WRONG!  This stuff was amazing, and I now find myself craving Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt instead of  my usual big bowl of ice cream.  Want to try it for yourself?  Download a coupon for $1.00 off here!

The texture is what really makes if for me.  It is so creamy and smooth.  It feels like I am eating something luxurious and expensive.  Riley and I like to set it out on the counter for about 5 minutes before we eat it – this takes the texture to another level!

Each cup of Healthy Choice Frozen Yogurt is made with real nonfat milk, yogurt cultures and dairy protein to create what is in my opinion the perfect snack.  In fact, the Healthy Choice Greek Yogurt Dark Fudge Swirl was the winner of the Shape Magazine 2013 Snack Awards “Best Night Bite” award.  Way to go Dark Fudge Swirl!

There are 5 flavors to choose from:  Dark Fudge Swirl (Riley’s favorite), Strawberry (my personal favorite), Vanilla, Raspberry, and Blueberry.  I haven’t found the Blueberry or Raspberry in my Publix yet.  I keep checking every week.

In each box you get 4 little cups of frozen yogurt that are 100 calories each.  Those little cups really do satisfy all of my cravings.  They are so convenient too…no scooping, over filling your bowl or dirtying dishes.  Just grab a spoon and enjoy!

I know you will really love this stuff…just like we did.  Click here to download a $1.00 off coupon to try it for yourself.

Disclosure: This post is brought to you by ConAgra Foods.  I’ve been compensated for my time; however, as always opinions and thoughts are my own.

Hot Off The Grill!

I love using my outdoor grill during the Summer. Especially because it helps keep my house cool when it is so hot outside! Every Friday night is pizza night at the KatyShops household…and in the Summer that means grilled pizzas.

If you haven’t tried grilling a pizza you are missing out! It has the best flavor and is so easy to do. If you need instructions check out this link about “How to Grill Pizza”. They have a ton of great photos that will walk you through the process.

I like to keep rolls of Pillsbury Pizza Crusts on hand for our grilling adventures. They are so easy to use and taste awesome!  Just pop open the can, put it on the grill and load it with your favorite toppings.  Last week we made a zucchini, garlic, lemon and Parmesan pizza on our grill with the Pillsbury thin crust.  It was soooo good!

There are three varieties of Pillsbury Pizza Crust to select: Artisan, Classic, and Thin Crust. My favorite is the Thin Crust – it really tastes amazing when grilled.  Do make pizza on your grill?  If you don’t, you are missing out.  Give it a try!  If you do, share your recipe with us!

Pure Madness

It’s CRAZY chocolate love!  Really, it is.  Thanks to BzzAgent I received some Pure Madness Chocolates to try out…and I wasn’t disappointed.  This stuff is made with raw chocolate imported from Belgium combined with classic and crazy flavors.  The box of Truffles not only looks like a piece of art, it tastes so decadent.  It makes me feel fancy eating it!

The end of the year is coming fast…and you need some really great ideas for teacher gifts, or how about Mother’s Day?  Well, here is your really good idea…a box of Pure Madness Chocolate Truffles.  It comes filled with traditional flavor combinations like Hazelnut, Dark Chocolate, and Vanilla.  It also includes some very inventive flavors like Chili Lime, Orange Kumquat, and Green Apple.  It is so beautiful that it will make anyone feel special.

Maddie Loves Doughnuts

Hello! It’s Maddie, KatyShops’s daughter, guest posting yet again! Now, I know doughnuts are the new cupcakes, but I have always loved doughnuts. I remember when I was younger, I would wake up to a box of Dunkin’ Donuts or I would drive to the doughnut store with my dad to pick out a dozen for my family. As I’ve grown older, my tastes have grown beyond the typical cream-filled and glazed varieties. I crave interesting, creative doughnuts now. And boy, do I have some tasty doughnut shops to share with you!

If you live in the Atlanta area, there are two shops for you. The first, Sublime Doughnuts, is a close tie for my favorite doughnut shop. Its flavors are crazy, but still adhere to the traditional doughnut. This shop is truly a doughnut-lover’s paradise. The shop is not only filled with real doughnuts, but doughnut pillows and books and even mobiles! Anyway, back to the doughnuts. I have tried an incredible, unhealthy amount of their doughnuts, so I know what’s up. If When you go here, here are some doughnuts to try: the Oreo doughnut (a chocolate doughnut topped with icing and Oreo pieces and filled with cream), the Caramel Apple Fritter (an apple fritter glazed and drizzled with caramel), the Orange Dream Star (an orange cream-filled star-shaped doughnut iced with an orange icing), and the S’mores Doughnut (a doughnut topped with a marshmallow icing, a chocolate glaze, and a sprinkling of crushed graham crackers).

Next up in the ATL is Dutch Monkey Doughnuts. My mom recently introduced me to this shop during the winter and it’s catching up with my love for Sublime. Dutch Monkey sells big, over-the-top doughnuts with some classic, yet innovative, flavor combinations. Now, if you visit Dutch Monkey, you HAVE to try The Dutch Monkey doughnut. This doughnut is filled with dulce de leche and topped with bananas and a chocolate glaze. So, it’s pretty much perfect. Also, I recommend the Salted Caramel Bar (a bar topped with salted caramel and chopped peanuts) because nothing is better than salted caramel.

For those of you who live in or near NYC or plan on visiting or anything, there is one shop I tried during my last visit that is perfect: The Donut Pub. My aunt, sister, and I visited this store almost every day for a week. It’s that good. This shop isn’t super flashy. It’s small and simple and serves coffee and doughnuts at a little bar. The doughnuts aren’t crazy, but are instead classic flavors done right. This shop makes me fear moving to New York because I know I’ll go there everyday and then gain about 20 pounds each week. I’ve pretty much tried every single doughnut on the menu, and I recommend you do the same. But there are three doughnuts that I really loved: the Boston Creme Doughnut, the Red Velvet Doughnut, and the Eclair.

I’m always on the lookout for doughnuts and doughnut shops, plus I want to start baking my own doughnuts soon! So, if you have any recommendations, want to keep up with my doughnut adventures, or whatever, visit my blog Caramel and Salt! Thanks for reading!

Cafe Escapes Saved The Day!

I was knocked out with a terrible sore throat for a few days.  It was awful!  I couldn’t eat at all and could barely drink anything (the only silver lining is that I lost 3 pounds!).  I had to rely on any hot drink that I could find for about three days.  Of course I turned to my Keurig.  Thankfully, BzzAgent had just sent me some samples of the new Cafe Escapes k-cups to try for a campaign.

Here are the flavors that I received:

  • Chai Latte: An extraordinary taste of black tea and exotic spices.
  • Milk Chocolate Hot Cocoa: Milk chocolate creaminess, the way hot cocoa was meant to be
  • Dark Chocolate Hot Cocoa: Deeply decadent, decidedly dark, definitely delicious
  • Café Mocha: A blissful balance of cocoa and coffee
  • Café Vanilla: A tantalizing cup of the world’s favorite flavor
  • Café Caramel: Buttery rich, silky smooth, captivatingly caramelly

My hands down favorite was the Cafe Caramel.  It was awesome!  I felt like someone had run to Starbuck’s for me…it was that good.  My second favorite was the Chai Latte.  Perfect for my sore throat.

They are all delicious and under 70 calories (bonus!).  Look for them in your grocery store or order them online…you will be so happy that you did.

Porcelain Beauty

I love these Porcelain Sugar Cones.  They are so pretty and would be a really fun way to eat ice cream.  They are so popular that there is a 3 week delay when you order them.  $18 each

Happy Fridge

I love these Plaid Storage Containers.  They just make me happy.  They are a tinge pricey at $34 for the set.  But can you really put a price tag on happiness?

Feed It Forward (for free)

Starting today through December 25, or until the $40 million dollar goal has been met, Restaurant.com is launching its 4th annual Feed It Forward campaign. This campaign launched back in 2008 when the economy was rock bottom and there were so many struggling families and individuals. The idea behind the campaign is paying it forward without spending the extra money you might not have. So givers can give $10 Restaurant.com eGift cards, up to 40 PER DAY, during the holiday season.

Awesome…right?  So start sending your friends and family the gift of eating (my favorite kind of gift!)!

Everything Mini is Better

Especially Miniature pies!  I love this little gadget from Sur La Table.  It makes the process super quick and easy.  I’m sure you could make traditional pies as well as some savory pies in this little pie press.  Here’s the best part…it is only $2.99!  I love it!
