Healthy Choice Baked Entrees Review

Remember last week when I said that I was going to get creative with my lunch?  I have been having such a great time trying out all kinds of new things to pack in my lunch.  One of my favorites have been the Healthy Choice Baked Entrees.

I love them for lots of reasons, but mostly because they are crazy delicious and come in so many great recipes!  My all time favorite is the Chicken Enchilada Bake.  This dish is a full-flavored  chicken enchilada over cilantro rice and topped with corn, black beans and a queso sauce.  When you peel the film off the top after cooking it the smell of cilantro just hits you in the face!  It’s so fragrant and fresh.  No way does it taste like a freezer meal to me.

You can really tell that Healthy Choice Baked Entrees combine wholesome, quality ingredients to each of their dishes.  This results in fresh, baked-from-the-oven taste straight from the microwave.

There 10 great recipes to choose from.  My goal is to try them all!  My second favorite is the Italian Sausage Pasta Bake.  It combines fresh made whole grain rotini pasta paired with juicy Italian sausage, tossed in a rich garlic marinara with bubbling mozzarella cheese.  It is awesome!  I swear I want to lick the bowl after finishing it (and maybe I did…).  This doesn’t feel at all like you are eating healthy.  It’s so rich and satisfying.  If this is what eating healthy tastes like, I’m hooked!

I have really enjoyed trying to spice up my brown bag lunch for the last few weeks.  I have learned that not only is it a treat to pack a Healthy Choice meal, it’s also very good for me.  I don’t have to worry about counting calories or protein.  They have done all of the work for me.

This Will Blow Your Mind!

I had the opportunity to try out Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt and was blown away!  I thought it was going to be an okay snack that might take the edge off of my craving for a big bowl of ice cream.  I mean, at 100 calories and 4 grams of protein per serving how good could it be?  WRONG!  This stuff was amazing, and I now find myself craving Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt instead of  my usual big bowl of ice cream.  Want to try it for yourself?  Download a coupon for $1.00 off here!

The texture is what really makes if for me.  It is so creamy and smooth.  It feels like I am eating something luxurious and expensive.  Riley and I like to set it out on the counter for about 5 minutes before we eat it – this takes the texture to another level!

Each cup of Healthy Choice Frozen Yogurt is made with real nonfat milk, yogurt cultures and dairy protein to create what is in my opinion the perfect snack.  In fact, the Healthy Choice Greek Yogurt Dark Fudge Swirl was the winner of the Shape Magazine 2013 Snack Awards “Best Night Bite” award.  Way to go Dark Fudge Swirl!

There are 5 flavors to choose from:  Dark Fudge Swirl (Riley’s favorite), Strawberry (my personal favorite), Vanilla, Raspberry, and Blueberry.  I haven’t found the Blueberry or Raspberry in my Publix yet.  I keep checking every week.

In each box you get 4 little cups of frozen yogurt that are 100 calories each.  Those little cups really do satisfy all of my cravings.  They are so convenient too…no scooping, over filling your bowl or dirtying dishes.  Just grab a spoon and enjoy!

I know you will really love this stuff…just like we did.  Click here to download a $1.00 off coupon to try it for yourself.

I’m Fasting

The Fast Diet.  I purchased the book and was hooked!

tan

I have been working my butt off to try to get rid of 5 annoying lbs that seem to have taken residence in right smack dab in the middle of my body.  I have been working out like crazy and “watching” what I eat.  My middle aged body was saying “no way are you losing this weight”!

I was drawn to the Fast Diet because of how easy it is to follow.  You pick two days of the week to fast (by fast, they mean to eat 500 calories if you are a woman and 600 for a man).  The rest of the week you just eat normal.  I usually fast on Monday & Thursday, but often change my days according to the week ahead of me.  On my fast days I eat a 100ish calorie breakfast, have a few low calorie snacks (carrots, babybell cheese, etc), and have a 300 calorie dinner.  It really isn’t as hard as it sounds and if you pick the right foods you never feel like you are starving.

The proof is in the pudding (or lack of pudding)!  I started this diet with a group of friends & family.  After the first day of fasting one was down 7 lbs, one was down 1.8 lbs, one was down 2.4 lbs and one didn’t lose any weight.  I’m three weeks in and I have lost over 4 lbs and it is staying off.  This diet is perfect for me because it attacks the fat on your body (aka my muffin top).

I actually look forward to my “fast days” now.  They end up being really productive days for me.  I think it is because I’m not distracted with what to eat, if I’m hungry, or thinking at all about food.  I plan my meals out the day before and just eat what I have set aside.  Believe it or not, I can even work out on my fast days.

Has anyone tried the Fast Diet?  I would love to hear what you think about it!

FitFlex

Remember when I wrote about my FitBit Flex here?  Yesterday I received an email from FitBit telling me that I had walked/ran 250 miles.  It cracked me up because it made me feel a little bit like Forest Gump.  Then I started thinking about where I would be right now if I just started walking….and continued to walk…..

Anyway, I really do love my little FitFlex.  It has motivated me so much the last few months.  If you have one, add me as a friend!

Loving My Fitbit Flex!

I am always looking for something to motivate me to move more.  The FitBit Flex has been the perfect motivation!  It is a little bracelet that I wear all of the time (even in the shower) to track my steps, calorie burn, sleep, activity, weight,  and even my food.  It syncs with both my computer and my iPhone.  I love it because it shows how many steps I have taken in real time.  My goal is 10,000 steps per day and I have been doing a pretty good job of meeting that goal.

It is really handy when running or walking because it also tracks my mileage.  It saves me the trouble of putting on my Garmin every time I head out for a run. It was really fun to have on when we were out of town last week…do you ever wonder how much you walk when you are sight seeing?  It was A LOT!

It will help you reach a certain goal weight by telling you how many calories you can have each day based on your activity and how much you want to lose.

It also tracks my sleep cycles.  It lets me know how long I slept and how many times I wake up each night (which is really interesting).

The best part about the Fitbit is that you don’t have to plug it into anything to sync up.  It uses the Bluetooth feature on your phone to sync or syncs to you computer automatically when you are close to it.  You do need to charge it about once every 5 days.

I purchased my Fitbit Flex at Target for about $100.  They are pretty hard to find right now because the demand for them is so high.  I have been using it for about a month now, and love it.

Are you using the Fitbit?  If so, add me as a friend…we can take our steps together!

Is Your House As Dry As Mine?

My house is seriously dry.  Socks are sparking when I pull them from the dryer, my nose bleeds every morning and just giving a hug can be dangerous.  I need to put a little moisture back in the air!

I found this great little Air-O-Swiss Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier that uses a water bottle as for the water source.  I love how easy it would be to crack open a bottle of water and start humidifying the room.  Plus, you would ensure that you have clean water every time you use it.  ($40)

I’m addicted!

My girlfriends and myself always try to pick a theme around our Christmas gifts to each other.  This years theme was “favorite things”.  You know, kinda like Oprah’s favorite things (only not as expensive!)?  We tried to pick things that we had discovered during the year.  It was fun, we even screamed and hollered just like the audience on The Oprah Show.

I am quickly finding that my girlfriends favorite things are becoming my favorite things.  Especially the Carmex lotion.  How did I not know about this miracle cream?  It is amazing and low cost.  You can get it at your local WalMart.  It really works fast!  There are two types:

The Healing lotion – for everyday use.  It keeps your hands super soft.  It isn’t greasy and it soaks in really fast.   Under $4

The Carmex Healing Ointment is for your problem areas.  I put this stuff on my feet, throw on some socks and sleep until my feet are soft.  It really is amazing.  I even shined my shoes with it as a last resort!

We Were Sweet Smart!

I can’t believe a month has already passed since my family took the Listerine Sweet Smart Challenge.  You can read about it here.  Basically, we took on the challenge to improve our oral health during the month of October.  We were trying to develop great oral habits.  Here is what our goals were:

  • Brush at least 2 times a day for at least 2 minutes each time.
  • Floss daily.
  • Rinse 2 times a day with a post brushing mouth rinse for one minute.  This is the magic combo!  A mouth rinse such as Listerine Smart Rinse provides 12 hours of cavity protection.  And you thought it was only for fresh breath, right?    This is a very important step that most adults and children skip.

How did we do?  Awesome!  In fact, my kids did better than the adults.  They both said after a few weeks that they could really notice a difference.  Maddie said that her gums didn’t bleed anymore when she flossed – yay!  I actually learned in my briefing session with Listerine that teeth will stop bleeding when you floss after about 5 days of regular flossing.  This was news to me…usually I stop after a few days because I feel like I need to give my teeth a break.  But we kept on flossing and the bleeding stopped!

The whole family enjoyed using the Listerine rinse twice a day.  It really makes your teeth feel squeaky clean!  This is one habit that we are going to stick to!

Give it a try…challenge yourself to make some great changes in your oral habits.  I know you won’t regret it!

Be Sweet Smart This Halloween

October is here!  Along with the cooler temps, Fall colors, and carved pumpkins comes the big bag of Halloween candy!  This is the perfect time of year to evaluate your family’s oral health habits.  Listerine Smart Rinse has started a campaign to teach kids how to be  Sweet Smart when it comes to protecting their teeth each day.  I had no idea before I started this campaign that tooth decay is Americas #1 chronic childhood disease – more chronic than the common cold!  Yikes!

What can you do about it?  You can make sure that your entire family is following the best oral care habits available.  The Sweet Smart Challenge is the perfect way to get this started.  My family is excited to start the challenge and get some great habits started.  Here is what our goals are:

  • Brush at least 2 times a day for at least 2 minutes each time.  How many times do you brush quickly before heading out the door?  Take time for your teeth.
  • Floss daily.  This is a tough one.  It takes time.  We are working on this!

Here is our gear all ready to go.  This will make our challenge fun!

Fun toothbrushes, different flavors of mouth rinse, and of course floss!  Even my big kids are psyched about the different flavors of Listerine Smart Rinse – especially the Bubble Blast!  The handy chart will help us stay on track.  I know after we embark on this month long challenge we will have made some habits that we can stick with!

Want to make your little kiddos excited about their teeth?  Sign them up for America’s ToothFairy Kids Club.  They will receive a personalized Letter from the ToothFairy and quarterly fun, educational activities!  Or outfit their bathroom in products from their favorite characters.  How about Barbie™ and Phineas and Ferb rinses?  I’m excited about using my new argyle toothbrush – lol!

Think of a great reward for you family.  My teenagers want to whiten their teeth.  If they complete the challenge I will allow them to shine those canines up!  I told them that if they would commit to taking great care of their teeth, I would commit to buy them what they need to make them as white as they can be.

Are you in?  Give it a try!  Remember, you are never fully dressed without a smile 🙂

Sworking Out…

I found a new app that I love!  It’s called Sworkit the Circuit Training App.  There is a free version and an upgraded paid version.  I have been using the free version and am very happy with it.

It creates random circuit training workouts based on the amount of time that you have.  You can choose 5 minutes to 60 minutes and everything in between.  You then pick the area that you want to work on (or you can pick full body).  Sworkit tells you exactly what to do and even has a built in timer.  For example, you might start with wall sits, then move on to ab work.  You don’t need any special equipment and you don’t have to be in a gym.

I better go “Swork-out”…I’m heading to the Sugarland concert tonight and I want to look GOOD!
