Healthy Choice Baked Entrees Review

Remember last week when I said that I was going to get creative with my lunch?  I have been having such a great time trying out all kinds of new things to pack in my lunch.  One of my favorites have been the Healthy Choice Baked Entrees.

I love them for lots of reasons, but mostly because they are crazy delicious and come in so many great recipes!  My all time favorite is the Chicken Enchilada Bake.  This dish is a full-flavored  chicken enchilada over cilantro rice and topped with corn, black beans and a queso sauce.  When you peel the film off the top after cooking it the smell of cilantro just hits you in the face!  It’s so fragrant and fresh.  No way does it taste like a freezer meal to me.

You can really tell that Healthy Choice Baked Entrees combine wholesome, quality ingredients to each of their dishes.  This results in fresh, baked-from-the-oven taste straight from the microwave.

There 10 great recipes to choose from.  My goal is to try them all!  My second favorite is the Italian Sausage Pasta Bake.  It combines fresh made whole grain rotini pasta paired with juicy Italian sausage, tossed in a rich garlic marinara with bubbling mozzarella cheese.  It is awesome!  I swear I want to lick the bowl after finishing it (and maybe I did…).  This doesn’t feel at all like you are eating healthy.  It’s so rich and satisfying.  If this is what eating healthy tastes like, I’m hooked!

I have really enjoyed trying to spice up my brown bag lunch for the last few weeks.  I have learned that not only is it a treat to pack a Healthy Choice meal, it’s also very good for me.  I don’t have to worry about counting calories or protein.  They have done all of the work for me.

Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers

I have been working a lot lately.  Usually I take a typical brown bag lunch to work…a sandwich, some chips…you know, the usual.  I really wanted to mix it up a little bit and take something that I would actually enjoy eating.  I had the opportunity to try the Cafe Steamers line by Healthy Choice and it certainly was more exciting than my boring lunch that I usually bring. If you would like to try it out for yourself, click here to get a great coupon.

The hardest part was trying to pick which Cafe Steamer to buy.  They have so many great choices!  I decided on the Asian Inspired Kung Pao Chicken and the Grilled Chicken Pesto with vegetables.  They were both awesome!  At first I thought it would be annoying to have to cook something in the microwave at work, but it couldn’t have been easier.  You just take it out of the box and stick it in the microwave for around 4 minutes.  No film to peel back, no poking holes in the top, and no changing the power setting stirring  half way through cooking.  Easy. Just the way I like it!

After it is done cooking the sauce is in the bottom of of the bowl and the chicken & other ingredients are on the top in a colander type bowl.  Just lift out the colander, dump the stuff into the bowl underneath, stir with the sauce that was in the bottom of the bowl that was steaming your food.  It’s pretty cool the way it steams your food.  It really makes it taste fresh.  The veggies were so crisp, it was so good!

My Kung Pao Chicken had 21g of whole grain, 17g of Protein, and was only 290 calories total.  I’m sure my old standby brown bag lunch pales in comparison.  I’m hooked!  Not only did it save me time in the morning by not having to pack a lunch, the Cafe Steamers are better for me than what I had been eating for lunch.  It’s really a no brainer…I’m packing Healthy Choice from now on!

This Will Blow Your Mind!

I had the opportunity to try out Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt and was blown away!  I thought it was going to be an okay snack that might take the edge off of my craving for a big bowl of ice cream.  I mean, at 100 calories and 4 grams of protein per serving how good could it be?  WRONG!  This stuff was amazing, and I now find myself craving Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt instead of  my usual big bowl of ice cream.  Want to try it for yourself?  Download a coupon for $1.00 off here!

The texture is what really makes if for me.  It is so creamy and smooth.  It feels like I am eating something luxurious and expensive.  Riley and I like to set it out on the counter for about 5 minutes before we eat it – this takes the texture to another level!

Each cup of Healthy Choice Frozen Yogurt is made with real nonfat milk, yogurt cultures and dairy protein to create what is in my opinion the perfect snack.  In fact, the Healthy Choice Greek Yogurt Dark Fudge Swirl was the winner of the Shape Magazine 2013 Snack Awards “Best Night Bite” award.  Way to go Dark Fudge Swirl!

There are 5 flavors to choose from:  Dark Fudge Swirl (Riley’s favorite), Strawberry (my personal favorite), Vanilla, Raspberry, and Blueberry.  I haven’t found the Blueberry or Raspberry in my Publix yet.  I keep checking every week.

In each box you get 4 little cups of frozen yogurt that are 100 calories each.  Those little cups really do satisfy all of my cravings.  They are so convenient too…no scooping, over filling your bowl or dirtying dishes.  Just grab a spoon and enjoy!

I know you will really love this stuff…just like we did.  Click here to download a $1.00 off coupon to try it for yourself.

Just Heat and Go!

tanI was so excited to try the new Heat-N-Go mini waffles and pancakes from Pillsbury!  But do you know who was more excited?  My kids!  Actually these perfect for my oldest that is away at UGA.  I stocked her mini freezer with about 5 packages of these…for the days that she wakes up late and can’t make it to the dining hall.

Not only are they delicious…they are so fast and easy to make!  Just microwave them for 45 seconds and then run out the door.  No syrup needed, its baked right in them!  You can eat them on the go right out of the bag that you cook them in.  What a genius idea!

All of the flavors are really good, but our family likes the waffles best.  Have you tried them yet?  You can pick some up at Walmart and give them a try.  Visit to find more.

I’m Fasting

The Fast Diet.  I purchased the book and was hooked!

I have been working my butt off to try to get rid of 5 annoying lbs that seem to have taken residence in right smack dab in the middle of my body.  I have been working out like crazy and “watching” what I eat.  My middle aged body was saying “no way are you losing this weight”!

I was drawn to the Fast Diet because of how easy it is to follow.  You pick two days of the week to fast (by fast, they mean to eat 500 calories if you are a woman and 600 for a man).  The rest of the week you just eat normal.  I usually fast on Monday & Thursday, but often change my days according to the week ahead of me.  On my fast days I eat a 100ish calorie breakfast, have a few low calorie snacks (carrots, babybell cheese, etc), and have a 300 calorie dinner.  It really isn’t as hard as it sounds and if you pick the right foods you never feel like you are starving.

The proof is in the pudding (or lack of pudding)!  I started this diet with a group of friends & family.  After the first day of fasting one was down 7 lbs, one was down 1.8 lbs, one was down 2.4 lbs and one didn’t lose any weight.  I’m three weeks in and I have lost over 4 lbs and it is staying off.  This diet is perfect for me because it attacks the fat on your body (aka my muffin top).

I actually look forward to my “fast days” now.  They end up being really productive days for me.  I think it is because I’m not distracted with what to eat, if I’m hungry, or thinking at all about food.  I plan my meals out the day before and just eat what I have set aside.  Believe it or not, I can even work out on my fast days.

Has anyone tried the Fast Diet?  I would love to hear what you think about it!

Court Yard Hounds – my new sunshine

Have you heard that former Dixie Chicks talented sisters, Emily Robinson and Martie Maquire have a new CD outThe sisters have moved beyond country into a world of their own.

In their new CD titled Amelita you will find yourself delighted with songs that are personal yet familiar and widely relatable.  It stretches from bluegrass to pop and hits everything in between.  These girls can not only sing, they are talented musicians with a wide range of abilities from banjo, fiddle and guitar.

I immediately found myself quickly sing along to to the first track titled Sunshine.   I thought it would for sure be my favorite…but soon I was finding more and more songs that I loved.  Rock All Night is another song that I just can’t get enough of.  The harmonies and lyrics will reel you in on every track.  It’s the kind of CD that you want to pop into your car and sing your heart out while forgetting about the traffic ahead.

You can download the entire album on iTunes or Amazon.  Visit either of these sites to take a listen for yourself.  I’m sure it will quickly become your new Sunshine.

I participated in this campaign for One2One Network. I received a free copy of the CD to facilitate my review. By posting, I am eligible for incentives. All opinions stated are my own.

Remember when I wrote about my FitBit Flex here?  Yesterday I received an email from FitBit telling me that I had walked/ran 250 miles.  It cracked me up because it made me feel a little bit like Forest Gump.  Then I started thinking about where I would be right now if I just started walking….and continued to walk…..

Anyway, I really do love my little FitFlex.  It has motivated me so much the last few months.  If you have one, add me as a friend!

Hot Off The Grill!

I love using my outdoor grill during the Summer. Especially because it helps keep my house cool when it is so hot outside! Every Friday night is pizza night at the KatyShops household…and in the Summer that means grilled pizzas.

If you haven’t tried grilling a pizza you are missing out! It has the best flavor and is so easy to do. If you need instructions check out this link about “How to Grill Pizza”. They have a ton of great photos that will walk you through the process.

I like to keep rolls of Pillsbury Pizza Crusts on hand for our grilling adventures. They are so easy to use and taste awesome!  Just pop open the can, put it on the grill and load it with your favorite toppings.  Last week we made a zucchini, garlic, lemon and Parmesan pizza on our grill with the Pillsbury thin crust.  It was soooo good!

There are three varieties of Pillsbury Pizza Crust to select: Artisan, Classic, and Thin Crust. My favorite is the Thin Crust – it really tastes amazing when grilled.  Do make pizza on your grill?  If you don’t, you are missing out.  Give it a try!  If you do, share your recipe with us!

Draftmark. It’s what’s on tap.

Thanks to BzzAgent, I have had the opportunity to try the new Draftmark Tap System.  It is an adorable little keg system that fits right into my refrigerator.  The man cave has never looked so inviting!  Really, is there anything better than cold, fresh draught beer poured straight from the personal tap system in your own fridge?

It’s so easy to use.  Just place the home draught system in your fridge, insert a 3.8 liter (128 oz.) refill bottle of great-tasting varieties like Budweiser, Shock Top Belgian White, Goose Island Honker’s Ale, Goose Island IPA or Bass Pale Ale and always have a chilled, relaxed evening on tap.  I filled my Draftmark with Shock Top Belgian White…and it was amazing!  It even comes with magnetic tap markers to identify what you have in your keg.

It is so nice to pour ourselves a nice cold draft beer right from our own house.  It has the perfect amount of foam on top – I feel like I am the owner of my own bar – lol!  It is so easy to use too.  Just pop in a new plastic refill when you are empty.

We picked up the refill for our Draftmark at our local bottle shop.  It cost around $14.  Thank you BzzAgent for sending me the Draftmark for free…you rock!
