I found the “MacBook Girl”

I am trying to listen to Yael Naim’s new CD “She was a Boy”.  I say trying to listen to because my 16 year old daughter keeps taking the CD!  When the CD arrived for me to review she looked at the name and was not interested.  I told her that it was the girl that sings the song for the MacBook ads.  She was super excited and we popped it right in.  Yael is a French-Israeli singer-songwriter that you have heard sing  “New Soul” in the infamous ads…go find it on iTunes, I know you have heard it (and love it).

Her new CD with David Donatien titled “She was a Boy” is fabulous!!  She has an airy quality to her songs that make you want to sit back relax and just listen.  Her songs are fun & whimsical….just like the one on the MacBook commercial.  I think her style of music is called folk pop.  I just call it awesome 🙂

You can listen to “Go To The River” from the CD here, and even download the song for free.  Go listen, and tell me what you think.

The album is going to be released on May 17th…I suggest you pick yourself up a copy, it won’t disappoint.  Plus, your teenagers might just think you are a cool mom because you found the “Mac girl”!  Now, if I could just find my copy of the CD in Maddies room…

I received a copy of the CD for review.  I did not receive any money.  The opinions are my own.

Great Idea…

Is this not the best idea EVER??  You make different skewers of meats & veggies and then everyone can pick what they want?  Your dining guests will be happy and the meat/veggies will cook perfectly.  Genius.

Explore Your City

I thought this past weekend would be slow & relaxing due to the fact that Riley didn’t have any soccer games on the schedule.  Boy was I wrong!  It was a super fun weekend though…

Mike realized that a Groupon certificate that I bought him for Red Brick Brewing company was going to expire.  We headed downtown on Saturday to get our tour and free tasting.  The weather was beautiful and we were happy to head out on the road with the top down.  The brewery was nothing that I had expected…it was awesome.  We turned in our certificates for our free glasses and had them filled at the bar before heading outside to listen to two guys play acoustic guitars & sing just about every song we had ever heard.  From Tears For Fears to Cee Lo Green…how much fun is that?  It was so relaxing sitting in the sun, drinking a beer, and listening to music.  The place was packed!  What a great little find in an out of the way spot in downtown Atlanta.  In fact, Southern Living Magazine was there for a photo shoot for their magazine.  That is kind of the beauty of Groupon, you get to explore new places in your town.

On Sunday, Riley and I headed to the Atlanta Beat Stadium to watch a Major League Soccer game.  Atlanta does not have an MLS team, but lucky for us a few of the teams were in town for a few days to play some games.  We watched Houston Dynamo’s take on the New England Revolution.  Again, taking advantage of great places/events right where we live.  I used another great coupon to score great tickets for a very low price.

Here are a few ways you can get great deals on activities right in your own city.  Simply sign up to receive their emails.  They will send you one great deal each day.  You never know what you might find right in your own backyard.

Vision – A History Lesson

No one can deny the fact that Michael Jackson had a vision.  He was a musical genius.  Sony sent me a copy of Michael Jackson’s VISION to review.  I was so excited to get the chance to review this 3 DVD set.  They didn’t leave anything out – everything that he ever did is on one of these DVD’s.  It actually has 42 music videos on it and a bunch of short films – some that have never been seen before.  Dirty Diana, She’s Out of my Life, and a few others are some of the never seen before music videos that you will find hidden in the collection.

I also enjoyed seeing all of the celebrities that Michael worked with over the years.  There were far to many to list but here are a few you will find – Marlon Brando, John Travolta, Tyra Banks, Wesley Snipes (he looked very young), Iman, and Lisa Marie Presley (duh, of course he worked with her).

Amazon has the 3 DVD set for only $29.99 – that is an amazing deal!  This DVD collection could entertain you for days months!  Not only is it a ton of footage (over 4 1/2 hours), you could watch it over and over.  My girls loved it too – it is like letting them watch a piece of history (only way more interesting than regular history).

Fake Out

I have been lucky enough to get invited to a few holiday parties this season.  I love to take a dish to share…but I usually end up leaving my dish at the party.  Ughh.  Also, when I am entertaining at home, I often find myself without enough silverware.  It seems that I am always a fork or spoon short of the amount that I need.  I found the answer to all of my dilemmas…Mozaik!  Mozaik is the perfect solution! Mozaik’s Service for Eight kit is under $10 and includes forks, knives, spoons, salad plates and dinner plates. When I first opened the box, I thought it was real china! The plastic party ware can be washed and reused (hand wash or gentle cycle of dishwasher), or thrown away. It is a great alternative to paper plates that get soggy and messy.  It really is a true fake out…the silverware looks like heavy expensive flatware, but in reality it is plastic.

I received a party pack from Mozaik and MyBlogSpark to review. Right away I used the plastic serving bowl and spoon to carry my Caesar salad to my holiday party at work.  I ended up rushing out of the party to get to a hair appointment.  While sitting in the stylists chair I realized that I left my bowl at the party.  No worries…it was one of my fake out plastic Mozaik bowls!

They offers two styles: Classic and Contemporary. Plus, you can coordinate the table settings with platters, bowls, appetizer ware and other accessories.  They are super nice looking. A fine china look, with no worry plastic.  Love it!!!

My Get Together

I was selected to host a My Get Together party for Pillsbury Crescents.  This was perfect for me, I happen to love all things made with Pillsbury Crescent rolls.  They made the party so easy to host.  They provided me with the following:

  • recipes to share with my guests
  • Coupons for free Pillsbury Crescent Cans
  • a gift card to cover other recipe ingredients
  • a shopping list
  • product information sheets w/coupons
  • Allergen facts, tabletop signs, recipe cards
  • An oven mitt and a sheet pan

I was ready to roll!  I invited 14 of my girlfriend over to taste 4 different Crescent recipes.  I made Crescent-Wrapped Brie, Crescent Layer Bars, Mini Crescent Dogs, and Crescent Bacon-Cheddar Pinwheels.  They were all super yummy.  My favorite was the Bacon Pinwheels.  My guest’s favorite was the Layer Bars. We chatted and ate…and ate…and ate.  It was really fun hearing how everyone else uses Crescent rolls.  I picked up some handy recipes from some of my friends.

If you are interested in the recipes just click on the highlighted recipe titles above.  If you are interested in hosting your very own My Get Together Party, sign up here.  I love having a great excuse to hang out with my friends and eat 🙂

High flying!

It seems like everything these days is super-charged.  Remember the “super balls” that you used to get out of the gumball machines?  Now they have the SkyBall HyperCharged Ball that has it beat!  This bouncy beast is supposed to bounce up to 75 feet high.  It is actually filled with a combination of compressed air and helium – how is that for super-charged?  They say you can actually throw it the length of a football field.  That is cool.   Has anyone tried it?  Sounds like a lot of fun for $8.50 if you ask me.

Juicy Boxes for Adults?

Genius!  Dailys Cocktails has taken the juice box idea to the next level.  The adult beverage level…yipee!  Single serve pouches of your favorite frozen cocktails.  No blender, booze, or bartender needed.  Just freeze them & squeeze them.

Don’t want a frozen drink?  They have a line of regular cocktails.  Just open the top & drink away…

I love how they are single serve.  Sometimes you just want to sip something fancy without buying $40 worth of liquor and mixers.

Sex & the City 2 Soundtrack Give Away!

Winner!  #15 Carin Geraci!!  Thanks for playing 🙂

I recently had the chance to review the new Sex and the City 2 soundtrack….and I love it!  Filled with great artists like Alecia Keys, Erykah Badu, Dido, Cyndi Lauper,Leona Lewis,  Jennifer Hudson and even Liza Minnelli it appeals to all ages.  My favorite song is Track number 1 – Alicia Key singing a remix of Blondie’s “Rapture”.  Awesome.  It is remixed with the Sex and the City Theme (which was my ring tone for many many years).  My girls enjoyed the music too…except for one of the songs.  Liza Minnelli singing “Single Ladies”.  They laughed and laughed when that came on!  Another favorite of mine is “I Am Woman” sung by the 4 Sex in The City ladies – Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon.

WIN IT!  Comment on this blog post.  I don’t care what you comment, but how about letting me know who is your favorite Sex in The City character – or even better…which one is most like you? I will take comments until Sunday evening…and let random number.org pick a winner for me!  Good Luck!!!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by One2One Network on behalf of Sex and the City 2 and received a CD to facilitate my review.
