I’m Back! March 10, 2008

Wow!  What a wild few days we have had.  Thank you for all of your comments, calls, and visits…we appreciate all of you.  Maddie is back at home and doing great!  She is feeling super good and is already bored…that’s a good sign.  I sure did learn a few things about being prepared for anything.  First of all…if you have a pile of laundry…do it now.  Because Mike was out of town I decided that I would do all of my laundry on Friday so I would have an empty laundry basket when he dumped his suitcase out after he got home.  So, I saved up laundry for a few days.  Not smart.  Having clean underwear is very important - even in the middle of a crisis.  Needless to say I have been doing laundry pretty much since we came home from the hospital!  Second lesson learned…keep your cell phone on a full charge.  You never know when it will become your only mode of communication.  It really stressed me out to be worried about my “1 bar” that I had left during the whole ordeal.  I was really happy that I had my Shemergency Survival Kit  in my purse.  I used it lots…for the advil, lotion, breath freshener (there were some mighty cute surgeons around), and the tampons..quite a handy little bag.  If you need a fairly low cost gift for someone this was a life-saver for only $20.

Another handy discovery….Maddie received lots of really thoughtful gifts.  One of them was an iTunes gift card.  She downloaded a couple of movies and can watch them anywhere.  Super handy for waiting rooms, etc.  What a great gift idea for someone who is in a hospital.
We were fortunate to be in one of the best hospitals ever - Scottish Rite.  What an amazing place.  I think Riley actually thought it was some sort of Marriot resort.  She had a full activity schedule while her sister lay jacked up on morphine in her room.  She even learned to play the flute from the Irish Dance team that came.  I featured Cha-Cha Bella’s  Kristen Gates ring a while back.  Remember that a portion of the proceeds from every ring purchased will go to The Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.  They are the organization that runs Scottish Rite.  So thank you to everyone who purchased that ring…I know the proceeds are used in amazing ways.
