What kids are playing with… February 15, 2008

Its pretty sad when even the kid’s know about Brittney’s woes…look at this paparazzi play set…

Now they can act out Brittney’s trips to Starbucks or Amy Winehouse’s trip to rehab! What ever happened to Weebles (they wobble and they don’t fall down- like the celebs!)?

On another note..I’m trying to decide if I am sick enough to go to the Doctor today…or if I should just fork over the $$ and visit the minute clinic…or stay on my couch all day. Decisions, decisions….

Update:  Paid a visit to Dr. Bob today…he wrote me out a prescription for Antibiotics…the kind that are FREE at Publix.  I like Dr. Bob.

Happy Valentines Day…I hope you are smitten! February 14, 2008

Filed under: shopping — katyshops @ 7:13 am

I love Valentines Day! I like to see kids get all excited about their Valentines cards. I love how you see so much pink everywhere. I really like how it doesn’t require major shopping for presents…just a nice gift for my loved ones. My favorite Valentine’s treat is chocolate covered strawberries…YUM! I received the cutest little Valentines gift the other day. It is a special pair of mittens for two. They are called Smittens. You get 2 regular mittens and one mitten with holes for two hands in it…this way you can hold hands and still keep them warm. Awwww…how sweet! I can take walks with Mike or my girls and hold hands. They are really warm too- they are made from super plush polar fleece. What a great Valentine’s gift for only $10.95. I am very smitten with these mittens! Warms your hand and your heart too.

My Valentine’s gift to you is a free subscription to Fitness Magazine…no strings attatched - great for anyone who is on the couch to 5k program!

My Favorite Planet is.. February 12, 2008

My favorite planet is Chef’s Planet! They are the makers of really cool cooking products. I have some favorites to share with you…

  • Non-stick ovenliners - I don’t have the luxury of a self-cleaning oven. The Chef’s Planet Ovenliner is drip blocker, crumb catcher, a spill protector, and a burnt food guard. After I cleaned my oven with my trusty EasyOff I laid down the liner. Now whenever something spills or drips it fall right on the liner. The great thing about the liner is that it can go right into the dishwasher to clean! How great is that? Now I need to get the microwave liner too!

  • Non-stick Bakeliner - The Bakeliner’s are like reusable/washable parchment paper for your baking sheets and pans. You don’t need to use any cooking spray or oil…nothing sticks to these guys! I love them because they are dishwasher safe…no scrubbing involved!! They come in a bunch of sizes to fit all of your pans.

  • Grill & BBQ Mat - How smart is this? A nonstick mat for your grill. It won’t let your food fall through the cracks while at the same time preventing them from sticking. Perfect for shrimp, veggies, kabobs, and more. You can use them on charcoal or gas grills and my favorite part…dishwasher safe!!

They have so many amazing products (I guess that is why they are Chef’s Planet)…go see for yourself!

And BINGO was his name-O! February 11, 2008

Filed under: Free, great offer — katyshops @ 7:16 am

I often get my daily dose of headlines on the web. Lately I have found a really cool site called NetWinner to find my news. You can play a Bingo-like game to earn money or points. The points can be added up to receive a gift card to various/changing locations such as Barnes & Noble. If you accumulate 25,000 points you can convert it to a $25 Master Card that can be re-loaded. You can use this Master Card anywhere that accepts Master Card. While you are playing your numbers, news clips of headlines are playing on the right hand side of your screen. They are feeds from CBS, The Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal, and more. Of course there are a few advertisements - they are not annoying or pop-ups though. This is very similar to MyPoints only you don’t have to click to any other sites, you just play some Bingo! Just make sure that you verify your email address after you sign up…you can’t cash out until you do this. They will send you an email with a code to verify. The best part is that you get 1,000 points in your account to start with! It is really kinda fun!

How I spend my “blog time” February 9, 2008

Filed under: online help — katyshops @ 9:41 am

I enjoy writing my blog. I also enjoy reading other blogs. In fact, I’m sure many of my readers have their own blogs. My family has blogs, my friends have blogs, and then there are blogs that I read from people I have never met - but I feel like they are my friends or part of my “blog family”. My cousin Stacey started a blog this week. She is a former CNN journalist, a mom of three, and someone who has a gift for writing. You can find her stories here. My sister Amy added a new blog to her life recently. It is called In Consideration of Books. Amy has always had a book in her nose for as long as I can remember. She reads a wide variety of books and started her blog to share her love of reading. Thankfully she reads more poignant titles than me (remember my Running With Scissors debacle?). I’ve been asked to add a few people to my blogroll on my sidebar. Gladly, I added the links for some of the blogs I read…including my Mom’s training blog. Where do you spend your “blog time”?

Happ-iness is… February 8, 2008

I have found the best lip scrub ever! It is called The Lip Scrub by Sara Happ. Imagine a product that smells amazing, tastes good (yeah, I know…you aren’t supposed to eat it), and makes your lips super soft. You don’t have to imagine it…Sara made it for you. You can choose from six amazing flavors - Cocoa, cinnamon sugar, brown sugar, vanilla bean, almond creme, and peppermint. I have the Cocoa..and it smells soooo good. You simply rub the chocolate smelling goodness on your lips for a few minutes and then wipe it off. It removes all of the dry flaky skin…your lips will be so happy! It is an exfoliation for your lips. The packaging is really cute too - this would make a great Valentines gift (everyone should have great lips for Valentines Day). Make your lips happy too!

I’m a sloucher. February 7, 2008

Filed under: shopping — katyshops @ 8:08 am

Do you ever notice that as you age, you tend to slouch. With everything I do everyday, it is sometimes really hard to remember to have good posture. Especially while I am working at the computer. I have started wearing the Perfectore to better my posture. It is a wearable elastic exercise device designed to lift the body into proper posture. It makes you stronger by the use of resistance tubing. This is the easiest form of exercise that I have ever seen…you just wear it! By wearing this for as little as 30 minutes a day you can finally walk tall…your posture will be perfect. Guess what? When your you have proper posture you actually look slimmer! I keep mine right next to my computer, that way I always remember to wear it while I am getting my blogging done. How easy is that? Strengthening my muscles while surfing the web! You could wear it while driving, watching TV, or even cooking dinner. I have really seen results from this amazing product…hey, I’m only 5′2″…I need to make use of every single inch!!

Regret. February 5, 2008

Filed under: shopping — katyshops @ 8:34 am

Did you ever talk yourself out of buying something and then regret it later? When we were at the Expo at Disney (for the Half-Marathon) I stopped into visit Kim Overton’s booth. She is the founder & creator of Spibelt. Spibelt’s are these amazing stretchy little belts that hold everything you need while you run. They are great for cell phones, keys, snacks, and more. It was great to meet Kim…she is a little firecracker! She was working her very crowded (I think she sold out) booth all by herself! Yeah, I’m here in Atlanta kicking myself for not getting one.

spi.jpg

Luckily, my sister bought one for herself and wrote a review for my site! Thanks Amy! Here it is…

There is an unwritten rule in running that, on the day of a big race, you never use brand new clothes, equipment, sports drink or anything that you haven’t tested out first in training. I broke that rule for the spibelt and I did not regret it! I bought one at the Expo just before the Disney Half Marathon and I was so enthusiastic about it that I decided to go ahead and wear it during the race so I could carry my cell phone, which also has a camera. By the middle of the race my old water belt which I had trained with many times was killing me and I wanted to take it off and chuck it on the side of the road, but the spibelt was fine! It doesn’t bounce and whatever you put in it doesn’t shake so it is very comfortable.

At the end of the race, I was so happy I had worn it - I was able to text my friends right away to tell them I finished, my husband was able to call me to congratulate me, and I was able to take some post-race pictures of my sisters, my mom and myself - priceless! The spibelt was such a handy way to carry this one small, but important item!

Have you ever talked yourself out of a purchase and later regretted it?  I would love to hear about it.
