My friend Michelle and I like to swim laps at the aquatic center. This weekend she paid a pretty penny to get her hair colored and didn’t want to mess it all up with the chlorine. We set out to find a solution to her problem. Swim Cap? Product? Our first stop was Sports Authority where we tried on just about every swim cap that they make. We decided that red was not a good look (after I peed my pants looking at her in one)…well, really none of them were a good look - at least while you are standing fully clothed in a store. She decided on a pretty cheap silicone cap. The Lycra one was much nicer but didn’t seem like it would keep the water off of her hair. So on Sunday morning Michelle wrestled her hair into her silicone (aka rubber) cap and jumped in the pool for her laps. It actually looked better on her when she was in an actual pool environment! After our laps she pulled her cap off…..and all of her hair was wet! What the….???? Okay, I was a little disappointed in the whole swim cap debacle. Are they just supposed to make you swim faster? So Michelle, I have done some research and found some solutions to your problem.

  • Wet your hair before getting into the pool. Hair absorbs water…let it absorb un-chlorinated water first.
  • Put Leonor Greyl Palm Oil Potion on your hair before swimming. It acts like an oil slick and keeps the chlorine out of your hair. I wonder if Wesson oil would have the same affect?

  • L’Oreal makes this fancy stuff to put in your hair to protect against chlorine damage.

  • This stuff is supposed to work too.

  • You could try a different kind of swim cap. This one might work better.

  • Or this pretty one…

  • Try wearing a suit that really covers you up.

Does anyone else have any advice for Michelle? I’m no good…back when I was on the swim team I just suffered through the summer with green hair. Oh yeah…I found this nifty little lap counter for swimmers. It goes on your finger like a ring. I can never remember how many laps I swim. This is cool!

Or…look at these super cool bags that can hold your wet swimsuit.

Oh, this kickboard is way cuter than the blue ones that they have at the Aquatic Center.

Oops. Sorry I got a little sidetracked. I hope I helped Michelle!!
